The Christian Standard Bible Exposed

By Dr. Ken Matto

The Christian Standard Bible (CSB) is nothing more than one more addition to the long list of counterfeit versions available.  Just like the ESV which is a rewrite of the Revised Standard Version and the NASV which is an update of the 1901 American Standard Version, the CSB is a rewrite of the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB).  There is nothing new in this version since it contains the same omissions, mutilations, additions, and twisted verse meanings as the others do.  They love to use the word “Standard” in describing their versions.  What is a standard?  According to the 1828 Webster Dictionary:

“That which is established as a rule or model, by the authority of public opinion, or by respectable opinions, or by custom or general consent; as writings which are admitted to be the standard of style and taste. Homers Iliad is the standard of heroic poetry. Demosthenes and Cicero are the standards of oratory. Of modern eloquence, we have an excellent standard in the speeches of lord Chatham. Addisons writings furnish a good standard of pure, chaste and elegant English stayle. It is not an easy thing to erect a standard of taste.

How then can the CSB be a trend or pace setter when it is nothing but a rewrite of another counterfeit version, namely the HCSB.  There is nothing that makes the CSB a standard to follow since it is just another rewrite to gain a copyright so they may sell more counterfeits.  It is all $$$$$$ and that is the reason for these rewrites.  It is a shame that Christians refuse to think and investigate these versions instead they run right out and buy them placing millions of dollars into the coffers of the publishers who could not care less about their spiritual growth, only their wallet.  These big sales only fund the production of future counterfeit versions, all more corrupt than their predecessors.

The CSB is endorsed by Alistair Begg and Tony Evans.  I once thought that Alistair Begg had discernment but not anymore.  He is just another media preacher with open palms waiting for the publishers to deliver their endorsement bribery.  There is no difference and no value to the CSB no matter who endorses it.  I read a post on line that some lady likes the CSB because it has a nice easy to read font.  Based on that reasoning, when she goes out and buys a car, does she buy one based on how pretty the tires look or will she investigate the car to see if it is durable, safe, and reliable? Well the CSB is not reliable as you will see in the 56 verses below.

Below are the 56 verses from the CSB which will show its complete agreement with the New World Translation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Roman Catholic New American Bible.  There are literally hundreds of verses which have been mutilated in the CSB.  If you would like to check them out and see them for yourself go to:

www.scionofzion.com/kjcomparisons.html

On this page you will have each verse more intently researched for you showing the corruptions which agree with the other counterfeit versions like NIV, NASV, ESV, etc.  For this brief comparison article, I will only be comparing 3 versions and you will see how the CSB agrees 100% with the New World Translation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Roman Catholic New American Bible and how it differs from the real standard which is the King James Bible which has stood the test of time for over 400 years.  Then tell me that the CSB is a Standard!

The underlined, bold print will show the part of the verse which is omitted or mutilated in the CSB, NAB, and NWT.

Genesis 12:18-19

(KJV) And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? {19} Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

(CSB)  So Pharaoh sent for Abram and said, “What have you done to me? Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? {19} Why did you say, ‘She’s my sister,’ so that I took her as my wife? Now, here is your wife. Take her and go!”

(NAB) Then Pharaoh summoned Abram and said to him: “How could you do this to me! Why did you not tell me she was your wife? {19} Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now, here is your wife. Take her and leave!”

(NWT) Even the Jehovah’s Witness go this one right!

This is one of the more subtle, yet major abominations in the modern versions. In the KJV we read the single word in verse 19, “might.” This means that Pharaoh did not yet take Sarah to be one of his wives. The modern versions omit the word “might” and teach that Pharaoh took Sarah to be his wife which would make Sarah an adulteress. This would also mean that the plagues which God sent on the house of Pharaoh would have been fruitless (verse 17). The reason that God sent those plagues was to prevent Pharaoh from taking her as his wife. According to the KJV, Pharaoh did not take Sarah as wife and returned her to Abraham who was rebuked by Pharaoh for lying about Sarah. When one little qualifying word is omitted, it changes the entire meaning of the passage which also affects the teachings of other passages and the continuity of the flow of Scripture. All the modern versions above use the word “took” which means that the action of taking Sarah as wife had already been completed, as the word “took“ is the past tense of the word “take.”

2 Samuel 21:19

(KJB) And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Beth-lehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

(CSB) Once again there was a battle with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath of Gath. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam.

(NAB) There was another battle with the Philistines, in Gob, and Elhanan, son of Jair from Bethlehem, killed Goliath of Gath, whose spear shaft was like a weaver’s beam.

(NWT) And war broke out again with the Phi·lisʹtines at Gob, and El·haʹnan the son of Jaʹa·re-orʹe·gim the Bethʹle·hem·ite struck down Go·liʹath the Gitʹtite, whose spear had a shaft like the beam of loom workers.

Who killed Goliath?  Was it David according to the King James Bible or Elhanan as the CSB states?
