John 6:58

Affected Teaching
Here is a direct link to the Old Testament when the manna came down from heaven which was a representation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many of the modern versions omitted the word “manna” and replaced it with “bread.” They were two totally different things by means of their ingredients. The Greek has a perfectly good word for “bread’ and it is “artos” which is totally different than the Greek word “manna.” They were also different because one was made with earthly ingredients which was bread but the manna was a heavenly blessing created daily by the Lord. By removing the word manna, the modern versions also break context. Here is John 6:49 from some the same modern versions which include “manna” but remove it in verse 58:

1901 ASV - Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
ESV - Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
NASV - Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

So there is no real reason why the word “manna” should be removed from verse 58 when it was perfectly suitable for verse 49.
