Affected Teaching
In ancient times to be taken away or sent away from a meal was a disgrace. Not being properly washed and in proper clothing was also an insult to the host. This is why the king had him punished. This has another meaning and that is on the last day, those who thought that they were properly clothed, that is, they did everything their church told them and they stuck to all the rituals and they thought those things had clothed them in righteousness. Then will come the shock that they had never become saved. Then the angels will be told to “take them away” meaning to a place of damnation and the phrase also means that the place of damnation is separated from the place of eternal life. The modern versions remove the phrase making it sound that the place of torment is right there where the Lord is sitting and judging.
