Proverbs 31:21-25

Prov 31:21 (KJB)
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

When winter is ready to come upon the area where she lives, she does not fear if the snow comes because her household is clothed in scarlet which would be easily seen if someone went out in the snow. This could have a great spiritual meaning that her whole house has been clothed with scarlet, that is, every sin of theirs has been paid for by the blood of Christ which could be pointing to the whole household of God.

Prov 31:22 (KJB)
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

Silk - Fine linen
Coverings of tapestry - Cover as a bedspread

She makes covers for all the furniture in the house and the covers are not made of cheap material, it is of fine linen. These may be some of the things which she made on the spindle into the night. It is interesting to note that both purple and scarlet were colors used in the construction of the tabernacle. Purple is the royal color as Christians are covered in the robe of Christ’s righteousness. (Isa 61:3 KJV) To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Prov 31:23 (KJB)
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

Known - Understood

Her husband is one of the elders which sit in the gates. He is well-known and understood by many. He will be respected if his home is run with the efficiency of this section of Scripture. (1 Tim 3:8-11 KJV) Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; {9} Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. {10} And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. {11} Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. In the church, not only were the deacons to be grave, that is sober minded and filled with the things of the Lord, the wives were also to be of the same mind. If the husband of the wise wife is known in the gates, then she too will be known for her wisdom.

Prov 31:24 (KJB)
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Girdles - Linen undergarments

Since this woman is very wise, when she is making clothing for her family, she also makes more than they need and then delivers them to the merchants to bring in extra money for the household. She sells them and gets a good return on investment when she initially purchased the wool and flax. Again, she is looking out for her family and making sure they have enough money to be able to afford the necessities, especially in hard times.

Prov 31:25 (KJB)
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

She not only has strength of body to be able to perform all the tasks which were listed but she also has strength of mind because of the way she had handled the affairs of the house, even getting involved in selling her merchandise. Since she shows such a tremendous aptitude for properly running her home, she will also be honored, not only by friends but her husband will hold her in high esteem because he will realize what a wonderful companion he has married. Her wisdom and the way she performed her duties will also come back to bless her when she begins to have gray hair. She will rejoice because wise decisions normally have a good return which may last for a long time. Bad decisions tend to have a bad return very quickly.
