Affected Teaching
Anyone who removes anything from His word will be subject to eternal damnation. Those who are unbelievers were never in the holy city nor in the Lamb’s Book of Life. God is telling us that those who adulterate His Word are not worthy to be in the book of Life or the holy city. One of the most major attacks on the word of God today is the modern versions which remove verses and the portions of many other verses. This is one way they are taking away from the word of God. Then another way that teachings are removed from the word of God is by preachers and teachers who cast doubt on parts of the word of God. Many preachers do not believe in hell nor do they believe in the first three chapters of Genesis being literal. Those who take away from the word of God in any fashion are revealing that they are under the judgment of God and unless they become saved, will suffer the same penalty as all the rest of the unbelievers. God records the name of everyone He has saved in the book of life and not in the tree of life.

The tree of life is symbolic of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Rev 22:14 KJV) Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Notice Rev. 22:14 states that that they are blessed who do His commandments. Without the benefit of the rest of the Bible, we could look at this passage and claim that we are saved by works in keeping His commandments. Of course we know that is impossible for anyone to do as no one can work for salvation. We do the commandments of the Lord through salvation by grace because Christ had satisfied all the demands of God’s Holy Law on behalf of the believer and we do the commandments as a result of salvation and not for salvation. Every saved person has their name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and as a result, we have the right to the tree of life for eternity, that is, Christ. For the modern versions to remove the second usage of “book” in verse 19 is to remove continuity of the thread which is in view in verses 18 and 19 which is speaking about those who are saved and those who are not.
