- Affected Teaching
- The word “peisthenes” which was omitted in the critical Greek text is
very important because it states that those who received the promises but
did not see them literally fulfilled, yet, were persuaded or convinced of
the truth of those promises. They not only received the promises but they
were convinced in their heart through the Holy Spirit that they would come
to pass in God’s timing. As believers, there are promises we embrace from
the Scriptures and we are convinced or persuaded that they will come to
pass. We are persuaded or convinced that the Lord will return to earth, that
the true believer will receive eternal life, that there will be a New Heaven
and New Earth, that the believer will receive a new glorified body, etc. So
there are promises that you and I are convinced or persuaded of which have
not come to pass yet and we, like the patriarchs, are persuaded of the truth
of these promises by the indwelling Holy Spirit. A great truth which is
omitted in the modern versions.
