Isaiah 32:1-10

Isa 32:1

Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.

This verse points to the Lord Jesus Christ as ruler of this world as he rules over all his saints, those that have been redeemed.  And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. (Revelation 15:3)  This verse is in contrast to the fallible kings which rule in Judah including Hezekiah at this time.  Christ is the King of saints but he is also King of kings and has the rule over Hezekiah.  The princes which will rule in judgment will be the true believers.  The name “Israel” means “Prince with God.”  When people become saved they are the Princes and Princesses of God.  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:6)  The true believer has been made a king and priest and this is where the believer rules.

Isa 32:2

And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Then the description of Christ and the true gospel continues.  Christ shall be like a hiding place from the wind.  And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. (Luke 8:24)  Especially when the winds of adversity blow on someone, Christ shall be their hiding place.  Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. (Psalm 119:114)  Then Christ will be the covert which is a place of protection from the tempest which is a great storm, especially the storms of life.  I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest. (Psalm 55:8)  Then when we run on dry in this life we will be refreshed with the rivers of living water.  The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? (John 4:11)  Then we shall seek refuge in the rock of our salvation.  O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. (Psalm 95:1)  The weary land may also be understood as a dry or thirsty land.  O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; (Psalm 63:1)

Isa 32:3

And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.

Then two of the characteristics of the true believer in Christ is that we have our spiritual sight and can see beyond earth’s horizons by faith.  The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18)  Then we can also hear and discern properly what we hear and we hear with understanding.  He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matthew 11:15)  These are not just speaking of physical hearing but is speaking of having spiritual ears to understand the spiritual things as the Holy Spirit gives us understanding.

Isa 32:4

The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.

The person who is rash which is understood as “impulsive or one who acts hastily” without knowledge will now possess a calm spirit allowing them to gather information so they will not plow headlong into an impulsive matter.  They will have a spirit of calmness.  Then those who stammer or stutter will be able to speak plainly.  It also refers to the person who before salvation that spoke wrongly of the LORD not understanding his ways but now will have better understanding and will speak plainly about the things of God.  It is the difference between a person before and after salvation.

Isa 32:5

The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.

Here we have two descriptions which are totally opposite of what they are.  This is what the world does as they bring glory to people who do not deserve such recognition.  In other words, truth will prevail and no longer will the true believer look at only the outward lives of these people but will take all the facts into consideration.  The vile person behind the scenes is touted as being a liberal or altruistic person in public.  It is like a ruler of the people being called a great selfless person when in reality behind the scenes is working only to enrich himself not caring who he hurts in the process.  Then the churlish person which means a miser or one that withholds behind the scenes that may make a donation which would only further his own interests.  The churlish person can also be an impolite or a very rude person.

Isa 32:6

For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

Here is the true nature of the two people named in verse 5.  The vile person which is a wicked or foolish man will speak villany which is wicked or foolish speech.  His heart will always be bent toward working iniquity.  For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. (Proverbs 4:16)  They practice the art of hypocrisy, as they say one thing and do another like a politician.  They bring false accusations against the LORD and they twist his word and make it say what it does not mean to say like the false preachers do to fill their own pockets.  Vile or false preachers will teach a false gospel and those who come to hear will go away the same way they came in, empty.  Their souls will still remain hungry because they did not get the truth of the gospel which would satisfy their souls.  Then those who thirst for righteousness will receive a false type of righteousness which would be something like give $1000 and God will bless you.  They go away thinking their donation is from a righteous motive but was from a con-artist seeking their money and replacing it with false hope.

Isa 32:7

The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.

The instruments of the churlish man are evil counsel, practices and motives.  He never does what is right for others but only for himself.  He creates wicked devices to destroy the poor which could be high taxes which destroys the economy of households of the poor and maybe their small businesses while convincing them it is needed for stability in government.  He may be a private land owner who makes his tenants pay exorbitant rents which devastate their personal economies.  Whenever those who are victims of the churlish man respond in truthful words, he creates more lies to justify his own evil ways.  Then in the spiritual realm, those who bring a false gospel impoverish the spiritually poor even when they bring a challenge to the person who is bringing the false gospel.

Isa 32:8

But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.

The true liberal is the one who is very generous and is willing to help others is always looking for an opportunity to help those who are truly in need.  They will be very careful to devise a giving program that will be received by those who truly have need.  By his generosity he shall be established by reputation and true deeds.  In the times we live in, many form organizations as non-profits and then take salaries from that organization in the hundreds of thousands.  One example is the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) they are always advertising on TV for people to donate and the CEO as of 12/18 makes $712,397 which is a weekly salary of $13,700.  Non-profit Huh?

Isa 32:9

Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.

Then the prophet not only addresses the men who devise such evil plots, but the women are to pay attention also.  They are at ease because many of them were married to those who brought in the big money which they benefited from and here God is warning them not to be at ease, that is, not to be happy when the money is coming in from an evil deal or at the expense of someone’s pain.  They were also called careless because they were happy with jewels and expensive living which were taken from others.  They should be caring about these things and be the conscience of their husbands because they cannot live like this and expect God to overlook those things especially with enemies like the Assyrians and Babylonians who had their eyes upon them.  Not only the men are responsible for their behavior but also the women and their children will pay the price for this careless living.  The prophet is warning them that they need to hear and heed his warnings.  Sometimes women take these messages more seriously than men.

Isa 32:10

Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come.

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink. (Amos 4:1) Amos had also brought a warning to the women concerning their careless lifestyle.  When the Assyrian army devastates much of Judah, these same women will be trembling because if they are taken as slaves they will be forced to do menial tasks or even become prostitutes.  When the Assyrians came they took out the vineyards where the grapes were grown and that would have put an end to their wealth and ease of life.
