Affected Teaching
This verse teaches us that where Jesus was, there was only one boat and that was the one which the disciples had entered into earlier. Jesus did not enter into the boat because He was sending the multitudes away plus He had planned two great miracles to occur on the sea. The people did not know where Jesus went since the disciples had gone over to the other side in the boat by themselves plus Jesus was also found on the other side of the sea. The two great miracles are found in Matthew 14 where Jesus came to them in the midst of the roaring sea by means of walking on the water and Peter left the boat to walk on the water with Jesus. The modern versions leave out a very important part of this verse because it sets up the scenario for the two great miracles. If there was no boat there except the one that the disciples used, then Jesus would have to have walked on the water across the sea to Capernaum or else if he walked around the shore of the lake, it would have taken Him much longer to arrive but we know He walked on the water right across the lake.
