Judges 13:6-10

Judges 13:6

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

Then the woman came to Manoah and told him what had transpired.  She stated that a man of God had come to her and he looked like an angel of God.  The word terrible means “to be afraid or fearful.”  This angel must have had an awesome countenance since it caused Manoah’s wife to be fearful.  She also told Manoah that she did not ask from where he came from or what his name was.  She was probably too excited at the prophecy of her having a child.

Judges 13:7

But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

She then continues to relate to Manoah the fact that she was not to eat anything considered unclean under the law nor was she to drink any type of intoxicating beverage whether it was just wine and especially no strong drink.  He was to be a Nazirite and obedience to the law of the Nazarite was required.

Judges 13:8

Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

Manoah was a godly man and intreated the Lord.  To intreat was to “make prayers” to “make a request, implore, or a petition.”  Manoah desired that the Lord would dispatch the man who appeared to his wife once again to him.  He wanted to learn about what they were to do or to teach the man who was going to be born unto them since he now realized that the birth of this child would have a special meaning and mission.

Judges 13:9

And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

God heard the prayer of Manoah and once again the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman but Manoah was not with her at this time.  She may have been present with Manoah when he prayed and then she went to the same place where she met the angel of God.

Judges 13:10

And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

Then when he appeared to her she went with haste and told her husband that his prayers were heard and the man who appeared to me the other day has now come back.  She no doubt ran to bring her husband to the spot where he was.  She may have asked the angel to remain there till she went and brought her husband back.
