Judges 21:11-15
Judges 21:11
And
this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and
every woman that hath lain by man.
Their
orders were total destruction of Jabesh-Gilead.
They were to kill every male and every woman who had relations with a
man. This was to insure that if the woman was carrying a child, even in its
embryonic stage, it would be destroyed and would not have a chance to grow up
and take revenge upon any of the children of Israel.
Judges 21:12
And
they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins,
that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the
camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
While
they were engaged at Jabesh-Gilead they had found 400 young virgins who did not
know a man by reason of relations.
So they brought them up to Shiloh where the Tabernacle was in Canaan.
Judges 21:13
And
the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were
in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.
The
entire congregation which was at Shiloh had now dispatched a peace envoy to the
remnant of Benjamites who were living in the rock Rimmon.
They had assured them that this was not a trick and they meant no
ill-will toward them.
Judges 21:14
And
Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved
alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.
Then
Benjamin accepted their offer of peace and they came to Shiloh and were given
the wives that they took from Jabesh-Gilead.
However, there were 600 men but only 400 women for their wives.
They were still 200 short.
Judges 21:15
And
the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach
in the tribes of Israel.
