Luke 17:26-30
Luke 17:26 (KJB)
And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of
man.
Jesus emphasizes that fact that His return is going to be very swift and
unexpected. He now brings in the days of Noah and begins to make a comparison
between the events of those days and the events surrounding His return. There
are many in this world who think that the story of Noah’s flood is just a story
and nothing else but here Jesus gives approbation to it as He does Jonah.
Luke 17:27 (KJB)
They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until
the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them
all.
Here Jesus tells us that in the times of Noah, people were making plans to be
married, they would eat their meals and drink. The people were going about
fulfilling their plans without any thought of God or their future. They did this
while the ark was being built right before them and paid no attention to it.
Their lives were going along business as usual. It is like today, the big push
is for gay marriage and people do not even care if it is against the teachings
of God. They are out looking for jobs which means their attention is on earthly
things. They are eating in restaurants and fast food places to get away from the
daily routine. In other words, the present generation is concerned not about the
return of Christ which has been preached now for nearly two thousand years.
(Psa 10:4 KJV) The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek
after God: God is not in all his thoughts. They are only concerned about
worldly things including wealth, pleasure, and health. Even when they see a
church on a corner or a cemetery, it does not move them to even question a
little bit about what they both represent.
The spiritual deadness of the generation in the time of Noah is very
representative of today. People are involved in cults like Buddhism, Hinduism
including Yoga, New Age, etc., and these cults reject the Lord Jesus Christ as
the Son of God. Therefore, they do not study the teachings of Christ which
includes His return and judgment. Instead they study the works of men such as
Buddha, Confucius, the philosophers, the secularists, the evolutionists, the
secular scientists, horoscopes, psychics, and other such anti-Christ materials
which have really taken hold of today’s society. This is why the return of
Christ is going to be unexpected because all the materials that people are
inundating themselves with are void of true Biblical teaching. (Gen 7:13
KJV) In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons
of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the
ark; The same day the rains came was the same day that Noah and his family
went into the ark. This also tells us that the return of Christ and Judgment day
are going to be one and the same. People have rejected the Lord Jesus Christ and
His claims which means they do not care and reject the teaching of the second
coming.
Luke 17:28 (KJB)
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they
bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
Then Jesus brings up the fact that in the days of Lot, the people were doing the
same thing. They ate and drank which means they supplied sustenance for
themselves and it also means that they were unconcerned about anything else as
long as they had food in front of them. They were also engaged in business and
they were working to make a living, all the while that the wrath of God was
abiding upon them because of the acceptance and lifestyle of sodomy. It was the
world going about its business with absolutely no concern for the impending
judgment because of their sin.
Luke 17:29 (KJB)
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from
heaven, and destroyed them all.
The indifference had continued unabated until the moment that Lot and his two
daughters had left Sodom on command of the angel of the Lord. Once they had left
Sodom and were out of harm’s way, then the fire and brimstone of judgment fell
upon four cities and they were all destroyed. (Gen 19:24 KJV) Then the LORD
rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of
heaven; (Deu 29:23 KJV) And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt,
and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein,
like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD
overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: It is interesting that four
cities are mentioned because four is the number of universality. On the last
day, the Lord is going to destroy this entire world fully by fire and the
destruction of these four cities is a picture of that full destruction.
Luke 17:30 (KJB)
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
Here is another evidence that the end of the world is on the last day and is not
broken up in small time frames. The next event on the prophetic calendar is
going to be the rapture of the church on the last day, not 1,007 years before
the end as the myth of pre-tribulation theology teaches. Once all the believers
have been removed from the earth, then the burning up of the present earth along
with all its sin will take place. (2 Pet 3:10 KJV) But the day of the Lord
will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with
a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and
the works that are therein shall be burned up. Notice in 2 Peter 3:10 the
Scripture states that “the day of the Lord” will come as a thief in the night,
which means it is going to be a swift and total judgment. It will be swift as in
the days of Noah, as we have seen in Luke 17:26.
