Affected Teaching
Here the Lord is giving a specific command that when He goes back to Heaven, the promise of the Holy Ghost will become fulfilled. The Lord gives them an order to wait in the city of Jerusalem for the receiving of the Holy Ghost. In the modern versions, we read that the disciples were to wait “in the city.” What city? Bethlehem? Bethsaida? Jerusalem? The modern versions keep everything in a very ill-defined position. The Lord gave them a specific place to wait so there would be no question where they were to wait. If the Lord just told them “the city” a discussion could have arisen among them concerning where they were to wait. God deals in specifics and does not cause His children to guess. Once again the King James Version gives us specific information but the modern versions keeps one guessing. That alone should convince someone that the source of these modern versions are not God but man.
