Affected Teaching
Since this verse is not corrupted in the Hort-Westcott text, it is
subject to the translators and they just followed whatever the previous
version said without even looking at the text. The word for “house” is not
in the Greek text and therefore is not the focus of this verse. The Lord
Jesus Christ was twelve years old in this portion of Scripture. He had
remained behind in Jerusalem and when Mary and Joseph found Him, He was in
the Temple sitting with all the theologians discussing biblical things.
Jesus had come to earth to die for His people saving them from eternal
damnation. Jesus was in the Temple but that is not the focus of this verse.
(John 4:34 KJV) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of
him that sent me, and to finish his work. Jesus was doing
the will of God and to finish the work. The modern versions focus wrongly on
the place where Jesus was. The King James Bible focuses on the reason that
Christ was there plus the words “my Father’s business” shows that at twelve
years old, Jesus already knew that He was the Son of God. This is a phrase
which shows the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ and His relationship with His
Father. Jesus knew that He came to earth for a purpose and even at twelve
years old, He was preparing for the time when He would be revealed and start
His earthly ministry.
