Mark 5:21-25
Mark 5:21 (KJB)
And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people
gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
They had now crossed over unto the western side of the Sea of Galilee. It is
interesting to note the difference in attitude toward Jesus the people on the
western side had versus those on the eastern side. Here we see that multitude of
people had come to Him and He was just arriving. It is not stated as to what
part of the western shore He landed on but it might have been from where He left
and the people who were on the western shore, were awaiting his return. It looks
like a spiritual picture where the Christian today is waiting for the return of
Christ just as those on the western shore were.
Mark 5:22 (KJB)
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name;
and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Jairus was one of the rulers of the synagogue in Capernaum. Even though he held
the highest position in that Synagogue, he did not think it was beneath him to
kneel at the feet of Jesus and to worship Him. Jairus no doubt had heard of the
way Jesus had healed many from his hometown the last time He was there and now
since his daughter had become very sick or even had died by the time he got to
see Jesus, he wanted to see if Jesus would heal his daughter.
Mark 5:23 (KJB)
And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of
death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and
she shall live.
Mark and Luke both teach that as he went to find Jesus that his daughter was
just on the verge of death but Matthew details the fact that she had already
died. (Mat 9:18 KJV) While he spake these things unto them, behold, there
came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead:
but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. Jairus had much
faith that Jesus could raise her from the dead and give her life again. He asked
Jesus if He would come to his home and just lay His hands upon her and she would
live. Jairus had requested Jesus to come to his house and just lay His hands
upon her and she would be healed or live again.
Mark 5:24 (KJB)
And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Jesus acted immediately upon the man’s faith and arose from teaching and
proceeded to go to the man’s home. His disciples also came with Him to the home.
Not only did His disciples accompany Him but there was also a great crowd that
came. The word “thronged” in the Greek carried with it the meaning of “a
multitude being pressed together.” In other words, the crowds were so thick that
they were literally pressing themselves together with Jesus.
Mark 5:25 (KJB)
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
Since this woman had a problem with hemorrhaging, she would have been considered
unclean under the law. (Lev 15:25 KJV) And if a woman have an issue of her
blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time
of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the
days of her separation: she shall be unclean. She had suffered with this
problem for twelve years which would have rendered her unclean for that entire
time. It is not sure as to what the “issue of blood “ was but it would have
rendered her unclean all the time she had it.
