Affected Teaching
One of the most premier signs right before the Lord returns is that of
pestilences. Pestilences are plagues or diseases. No one can deny that the human
race is in the middle of many diseases. The more medicines that are created, the
more people die of diseases. Some of the top killing diseases in the world are:
Heart Disease, Lower Respiratory Infections, Stroke, Lung Cancer, COPD,
Aids/HIV, Diabetes, Tuberculosis, etc. No one can deny that there are more
diseases today than ever before and many of these diseases have mutated. For the
modern versions to omit pestilences in Matthew 24:7, is to deny reality. In the
parallel verse, Luke 21:11, the modern versions retain it:
(ESV) There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and
pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
(NIV) There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various
places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
(HCSB) There will be violent earthquakes, and famines and plagues in various
places, and there will be terrifying sights and great signs from heaven.
There is no rational reason for it to be omitted in Matthew 24:7 since it has
sufficient manuscript evidence.
