- Matthew 9:31-34
-
- Mat 9:31 (KJB)
- But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that
country.
-
- Once again the Lord Jesus Christ had stated that they were not to tell
anyone about the healing but as usual, the word spread that the two blind
men were healed. It may be that they had no intention of spreading the word
but they may have run into people that knew they were blind and now that
they were healed, they wanted to know who did it. Keep in mind, when they
were blind they could not recognize anyone when they started seeing again
but there were those who knew that they were blind and could recognize them
as now healed.
-
- Mat 9:32 (KJB)
- As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with
a devil.
-
- Here is another case of friends bringing a friend to Jesus, and the man
was dumb, that is, he was unable to speak. Now this man’s situation was not
caused by a disease but rather by a devil that possessed him. He was not
able to speak so his friends had told Jesus the situation. This may also
give us a little insight as to who is behind idols.
(Hab 2:18 KJV)
What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the
molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth
therein, to make dumb idols? The Bible speaks about
Idols as being dumb and here a devil has made this man dumb. So behind idols
stands the kingdom of Satan ready to deceive.
-
- Mat 9:33 (KJB)
- And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
-
- Then Jesus casts out the devil and immediately the man was able to
speak. The multitudes which continued to follow Jesus were marveling at not
only this event where Jesus showed His authority over the kingdom of Satan,
but in all the other miracles He did in this area. The Old Testament
prophets had performed miracles such as Elijah and Elisha, but what is in
view here that astonished the crowd was that Jesus was performing the
miracles one after another and this was never before seen anywhere in Israel
or in the history of Israel.
-
- Mat 9:34 (KJB)
- But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the
devils.
-
- As soon as Jesus had cast out the devil, the Pharisees were right there
to pronounce a condemnation upon Jesus. They were not denying the fact that
Jesus was performing miracles, what they were saying is that Jesus was under
the authority of Satan and was casting out devils to deceive people and
Satan was allowing Him to do it to foster that deception. The opposition to
Jesus by the religious establishment was now increasing as they now claimed
He was possessed of the devil. They wanted to discredit Him as much as they
could among the people.
