- Proverbs 6:16-20
-
- Prov 6:16 (KJB)
- These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an
abomination unto him:
-
- Here is a list of six things the Lord hates and considers them an
abomination but the seventh has a different twist to it. For those who think
that God is only love, they need to read verses like this to realize that
God hates sin and considers it an abomination.
-
- Prov 6:17 (KJB)
- A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
-
- 1) The first thing the Lord hates is a proud look because it represents
the arrogance and pride of the one doing it. Whenever someone looks proud,
they are in essence putting the other person down and treating them like
second class. In verse 13, we saw that the evil person winks with his eyes,
that is, he uses eye signals to denigrate another.
-
- 2) The second thing is a lying tongue which is hated by the Lord because
it represents the evil which is inside a person. They lack truth so they
live their life on lies.
(Rev 22:15 KJV)
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers,
and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
God states in no uncertain terms, that those unsaved who
continually live on lies, will have their place in hell. The term “without”
means those on the outside of the body of Christ.
-
- 3) The third thing is hands that shed innocent blood. This is the person
who have committed no capital offense and died falsely and it also means
that those innocent people who have been murdered by a killer. Here is an
example of a person being murdered by law. A man named Joe Hill in the early
1900’s was a union organizer and the company wanted him dead, so a murder
was committed and Joe was tried and found guilty of the crime and was hung
in 1915. The company had shed innocent blood and those who did it are hated
of the Lord. There is also a spiritual application here. We must be very
careful that we never assassinate the character of another person because
that is like murdering them.
-
- Prov 6:18 (KJB)
- An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in
running to mischief,
-
- Imaginations - thoughts or plans
- To mischief - To evil
-
- 4) The fourth thing which is hated by the Lord is the person who lives
to devise evil plans whether against somebody or an evil scheme. Recently in
New York City a man named Bernie Madoff tendered a 50 billion dollar Ponzi
scheme and defrauded many people out of their life’s savings. It is evil
plans like this the Lord hates.
-
- 5) The fifth thing the Lord hates are those who cannot wait to go from
evil to evil. These people live to make evil plans and then work them out.
Within the confines of this type of person are those who are swift to join
this evil person in their venture. This is normally because the person who
joins the evil man does not want to work for a living and has allowed his
laziness to cause him to descend into a life of crime. This is why Solomon
warns his son that laziness can have very serious consequences which means
it has serious consequences in every generation.
-
- Prov 6:19 (KJB)
- A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord
among brethren.
-
- 6) The sixth thing the Lord hates is a false witness. In the law of God
a person can be convicted if two or three true witnesses come forth and tell
the truth. Contrariwise, two or three false witnesses can also convict an
innocent person of a crime they did not commit. Remember the false witnesses
that came forward at the trial of the Lord Jesus Christ? However, in their
case none of their stories confirmed the others and were seen to be false
witnesses.
-
- 7) The seventh is one that the Lord does not hate but considers it to be
an abomination. The word discord carries with it the meaning of contentions.
This has to do with those who are God’s people. This is why God does not
hate them because they are redeemed. The fact is that we are still in the
flesh and can cause trouble. Here the trouble is sowing discord among the
brethren. Have you ever been in a Bible study and someone brings in a false
teaching? Does that evoke harmony or does it evoke discord or contentions?
The Emerging Church Movement and the Purpose Driven Church Movement has
caused a tremendous amount of discord among the Christian community. Many
churches have been turned upside down for the worse because of these false
movements. How many churches have had much discord sown in them by those who
have believed the signs and wonders gospel of the charismatic movement and
have brought these teachings into the church. Anytime a false teaching
causes discord among the brethren, that is an abomination unto the Lord
because He gave His word to bring strength and stability to His people. Many
Christians have left churches because of these types of discordant problems
and have not returned to another church because they do not want to go
through the same thing again. This is why God sees the sowing of discord
among the brethren as an abomination.
-
- Prov 6:20 (KJB)
- My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of
thy mother:
-
- Law - Instruction
-
- (Exo 20:12 KJV) Honour thy father and thy
mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God
giveth thee. The children would immediately go
back to this commandment, that we are to respect our parents and if they are
Godly parents, then we are to heed their advice which would keep us out of
trouble. Both the mother and the father are responsible for training the
children so they will not wind up like the lazy man who becomes involved in
a life of crime. (Prov 22:6 KJV) Train
up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart
from it. That training is done by both parents and
the children are admonished to keep and understand the spiritual training
they receive.
