- Proverbs 8:26-30
-
- Prov 8:26 (KJB)
- While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest
part of the dust of the world.
-
- The wisdom of God, being from everlasting to everlasting, was present
even though the earth had not been made, even the most minute part of the
earth, the dust, was not yet formed. This verse shows the wisdom of God was
in the Lord Jesus Christ, as creator, before He even created the world and
the universe.
(Col 1:16 KJV) For by him
were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible
and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
-
- Prov 8:27 (KJB)
- When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass
upon the face of the depth:
-
- Here is a verse which could have been used by those in the Middle Ages
to prove that the world was round and not flat. However, the ancients
believed that the world was flat but it contained a rounded rim at the end
of the oceans. Yet, wisdom declares that it was present when the Lord Jesus
Christ created the earth as a round globe.
(Isa 40:22 KJV) It is he that sitteth
upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof
are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and
spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: The word
“circle” in Isaiah 40:22, is the same word as “compass” in Proverbs 8:27. It
is said that Christopher Columbus had looked at Isaiah 40:22 and used that
verse to search for the new world knowing that the Bible had declared that
the earth was round. Wisdom was present to form the earth and to form the
oceans and to prove that the world was round, rescuing it from the ideas of
foolish man that the world was flat.
-
- Prov 8:28 (KJB)
- When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains
of the deep:
-
- As the Lord was creating the intricacies of the world, wisdom was used
in every step of the way in its creation. There is nothing on this earth
that was created without wisdom, thus giving everything, even things we do
not understand, purpose. Man in his unsaved state is very limited in
understanding of the creation and just because he does not understand every
aspect of it, he tends to belittle it. Here we have wisdom witnessing to the
fact that he was there when the oceans were formed and the heavens were
formed, to wit, those heavens above the earth.
-
- Prov 8:29 (KJB)
- When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his
commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
-
- Wisdom was present when God decreed that the oceans should not go any
further than the shoreline. Even the oceans know its limits and obeys. Too
bad we Christians do not obey the limits God has placed on our lives, so we
will not cross them and get into trouble. The foundations of the earth are
the firmness and the construction of it. It encompasses the entire
structure, the mantle, the crust, inner core, the outer core, etc.
-
- Prov 8:30 (KJB)
- Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and
I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
-
- One brought up - Artificer or craftsman
-
- Before our modern era, the sons would normally follow in the trade of
their fathers and were thus “brought up” to learn that trade and by the time
they were old enough to marry, they had become skilled in the trade. Here
wisdom is stating that it was with the Lord in creation as one who was a
skilled craftsman. As we saw previously, everything was created with wisdom
giving it purpose. Not only was everything on earth given purpose, but was
also designed in practicality and beauty. Just look at the clouds they are
not only beautiful to look upon on a sunny day, but they are also practical
as they supply rain and sometimes they shade you from the sun. Wisdom
rejoiced because everything was made with wisdom. If you and I used wisdom
everyday, it would be like wisdom was rejoicing with us, as he was with the
creation of the world. Wisdom was the delight of the Lord. We saw this
wisdom of the Lord when He walked on earth and confronted those who opposed
Him. Many times He left them speechless and many times the creation leaves a
scientist speechless.
