Affected Teaching
The King James Bible states specifically in this verse that God is the God of the holy prophets. It shows that He has full authority over the prophets of the Old Testament and the Apostles in the New Testament. By the modern versions changing the word “holy” to “spirits of” removes the harmony that the Bible teaches concerning the prophets. (2 Pet 1:21 KJV) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (Rev 18:20 KJV) Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. God refers to both categories as holy, which means they were set apart unto the Lord and by the Lord for those offices to receive revelation and inspiration. By the modern versions removing the specific description of holy, they open the door for anyone to claim they are a prophet.
